3 Reasons to Recycle Batteries

January 4, 2022 by admin

You’ve probably heard all the hype recently about people wanting to be more environmentally-friendly and “go green”. However, sometimes it’s hard to get into the whole going green thing because it either requires extra effort or people aren’t able to do some of the things that are recommended by scientists.

Fortunately, one of the simplest and easiest things you can do to reduce your negative impact on the environment is recycle the batteries that you don’t use anymore. It may seem trivial, but it’s really true, this makes quite a difference. Here are three ways that your doing this can help the environment:

1. Prevents the Release of Harmful Chemicals into the Environment

Everyone knows that batteries have toxic chemicals inside of them that are harmful if ingested or if one comes directly into direct contact with them. However, what may not be known is that these chemicals are also toxic to the environment in some cases. If you want to really be environmentally-friendly, then you will recycle your batteries, because this prevents them from being crushed in incinerators, which means that the chemicals inside of them won’t be released, and thus, the earth will be a happier, healthier place.

2. Batteries Can Be Used to Make Other Products

One of the benefits of recycling anything is that the recycled products can be used to create other products. The same is true with batteries. Some of the elements contained within batteries can be used to create new, better products, like sunscreen. The zinc in batteries actually works as a great source of protection against the sun, so it is not uncommon for the zinc from recycled batteries to be extracted and put into sunscreen formulas.

3. Prevents Landfill Overflows

The overflow of a landfill is a bad thing, as all kinds of garbage can possibly slide into places where no one wants it to be and potentially create a bio hazard.

Landfill overflows usually happen because there is no more space to put anything in them, and some of those things taking up space in the landfills are batteries. Believe it or not, batteries actually take up a lot more space than you might think. Therefore, if you recycle them, you greatly reduce the space needed for them in the landfills, which in turn helps the environment since this reduces the chances of a landfill overflow.

Recycling batteries isn’t just some crazy idea—it actually has practical, applicable benefits to the environment. If you are looking for a way to be environmentally-friendly without having to exert much of an effort or do anything overly special, then consider battery recycling.
